Daytona Beach Symphony The Symphony presents six concerts during the winter season by orchestras from throughout the world. Daytona Beach Playhouse The Daytona Beach Playhouse has been presenting community theater for more than 50 years. Casting calls and productions are open to all.
The 2,560-seat auditorium hosts world-renowned artists, symphonies, ballets, Broadway series and touring performances. It is home to the Daytona Beach Symphony Society, the Civic Ballet of Volusia County and the Florida International Festival. Halifax Historical Society Artifacts tracing the history of life in Volusia County. A research library is available. The Society's walls are hand-painted murals of Florida history. Hours are from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Seaside Music Theater The only professional repertory music theater in the Southeast the Seaside Music Theater has performed many times to local, and national acclaim. SMT produces eight musicals each year.
Daytona Beach is the summer home of the London Symphony Orchestra every two years during the Florida International Festival. More than 50 concerts are presented in July and August, with major conductors, performing artists and ensembles from throughout the world. The LSO is scheduled to appear in Daytona Beach again in 1999. Civic Ballet of Volusia County Daytona Beach (386) 761-3192 This volunteer organization offers professionally-produced performances with guest artists. The Company performs "The Nutcracker" each December. Memorial Gallery Fine Arts Center Exhibits of arts throughout the Southeast and Central Florida are featured. It includes African Art Gallery. Tours are offered from 9:30 a.m.-noon, and 1-4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Museum of Arts and Sciences and Planetarium One of the major cultural institutions in the state of Florida, the museum features changing exhibitions and permanent collections of paintings from the 18th-20th centuries; American fine and decorative arts from 1640-1920; European paintings, Oriental art, African art, Cuban fine art; Pre-Columbian art and Florida Native American material. Film, video, concert and lecture programs are offered. The Museum also includes the Windows in the Forest Environmental Center and Planetarium. Hours are from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday and from noon-5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
The Ocean Center is Volusia County's premier host to conventions, exhibits, sporting events and concerts. Ormond Memorial Art Museum and Gardens The facility features a collection of Malcolm Fraser paintings and rotating art displays, located on four acres of tropical gardens with native Florida plants. Hours are from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from noon-4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Southeast Museum of Photography This is the only museum in the Southeast devoted entirely to photography. It features changing exhibits of historical and contemporary photography, lectures, symposia, children's programs and a permanent collection and library. Hours are from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday through Friday, and from 1-4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. |
